1. So, tattoos on thighs. Discuss.

2. Criminal Minds - surely there must be good fic somewhere? SURELY? Give me it, people, I know you have it somewhere. I needs to read about the Other Spencer.

This morning I spent 40 min waiting for a bus that didn't show up. Then I had to email my boss to say that I can't come to work. This has not been a good day.

On the other hand, I'm thinking about getting a new tattoo on my back. Along the spine orjust next to it. It would go.

What do you think? For those of you not in bandom, that is the first line of My Chemical Romance's 'I'm Not Okay'. Yes, I do love Gerard Way that much. *g*

Today is the first day of [livejournal.com profile] 14valentines, and the topic is Body Image. Here are some thoughts on women and tattoos.

If you google “women” and “tattoos”, several sites on the first page will lead you to articles about women wanting to remove their tattoos. (The other top sites include 100 Sexiest Women And How Many Have Tattoos and a discussion on whether women with tramps stamps are diseased sluts.) All of these articles refer to the same research done by Myrna Armstrong at Texas Tech University, which showed that women are more likely than men to want their tattoos removed. In ABC news, the story is titled “Women Race To Get Tattoos Erased”, and introduced through the tale of a woman who got her tattoo at age 18 during a road trip with friends, and who “hasn’t yet thought seriously” about getting it removed.Read more... )

I have many posts to make! I saw Fall Out Boy and they were wonderful! Patrick was tiny and adorable and Pete was tiny and adorable and they were adorable together (and tiny)! I was drunk enough to feel no embarrassment about twitching awkwardly to the music, and consequently had a GREAT time! I have no voice left because I sang my lungs out through every song, even the ones I didn't know the words to!

But more about that later (and about [livejournal.com profile] _emeraldgreen and [livejournal.com profile] fleshdress whom I also saw, and who were even more lovely than Pete'n'Patrick). Now I have a crucial matter to discuss, and I need your help.

My friend B. has implied that she would be happy to buy me a tattoo for christmas/birthday. I had not thought of getting another one so soon (since my green dragon is PERFECT and everything else would be superfluous) but now that the thought has occurred to me, I'm tempted. Furthermore, I'm kind of tempted to get a My Chem lyric tattoo (Yes, you can judge me. I'm judging me too.), and you guys need to talk me out of this. Cause as much as I love Gerard, and really, my love for Gerard is epic and embarrassing and resists containment, his words do not lend themselves to witty lines. And I'm not depressed enough to get "awake and unafraid".

Help? Please come and tell me that this is a bad idea, and/or show me links to cool tattoos that would serve as an alternative. Otherwise I might end with "GWay saves lives, okay?" on my arm.

I aten't dead yet!

I have, however, spent most of the past four days sleeping. Considering that the two weeks previous to my handing in, I slept about four hours a night and not at all on the last night, this is not unreasonable. It is still annoying, though, to have all this new-found freedom and want to do nothing but nap.

Anyway, I am mostly rested now. Some of you (yes, [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane, I mean you) will be pleased to know that I have began plotting more of Brendolina. It will be a few weeks before anything is posted, but things are afoot, at least.

I have also acquired a new tattoo. It's a green dragon and it's on my belly and I love it a lot, even though it is red and achy at the moment. There will be pictures at some point, or, as soon as I can find someone to take pictures of me without my clothes on. Not as easy as you might think. It took about 40 min to do and after the first few minutes, didn't really hurt - I was surprised to discover that it hurt less than my other two. *is totally hardcore*

I have many posts planned, including but not limited to: Tattoos and the Female Body, My Thoughts on Ryan Ross (and okay, my thoughts on Ryan Ross are mostly "ahahahahaaa", but there is other stuff as well), Review of Franz Ferdinand Concert (Or, a Blazon to the Beauty of Alex Kapranos), Review of The Black Parade Is Dead! (which is mainly me grinning besottedly at the screen and making the occasional cooing noise), but for now, I would like to ask for fic prompts. I'm aware that most of you, if not all of you, are here because of porn, and I'm also aware that I have been a most disappointing pornographer for the past year. So leave a prompt and I'll see if I can make it up to you. Any fandom! HP, SGA, Torchwood, bandom - I'll even try to write Americans if that's your pleasure.

Porn?

I have found my dragon. :D

It's spiky and curvy and green (greeeeeeeeeeeeeeen!), it's stylised and subtle, and it's a dragon. It's sort of perfect and I'm grinning like a loon because after spending hundreds of hours looking at pictures of hairy men with ugly tattoos, I have finally found that elusive thing, the Perfect Tattoo Design. It will be about 10 cm, and will go just above my left hipbone. And I wants it a lot. *g*

Come see!

After months and months of looking at pictures of people with really ugly dragon tattoos (And by god there are so many of them. Why do they all want to post pictures of themselves on the internet? Why? And why do I have to look at them all? I never want to see another hairy potbellied man with an Asian dragon tattoo. Argh.) and not finding anything suitable...

I may have found my dragon. *g*

What you think? Low on the hip, just above the hipbone, and on the left hand side. *wantswantswants*

I may have a slight tattooing addiction. I blame [livejournal.com profile] pre_raphaelite1 and Frank Iero. ;)

Exciting things in my life! Sadly, I'm not even being ironic. *g*

i. I have finally acquired t-shirts with witty lines on them. However, due to the incompetence the misspelling of the nice people at the t-shirt print shop, I now have a shirt that says "MILDY ALARMED AT THE DISCO". Somehow, that just doesn't have the same panache in criticising the loss of !. I'm not sure I want to wear that to the Panic concert now - I wouldn't want Ryan Ross to think I can't spell, ohmygod.

On the other hand, I also have a t-shirt that says HETERONORMATIVITY MAKES US ALL QUEER, which brings me great joy. Especially as I had to tell the guy at the shop that yes, it is a proper word, and pronounce it for him, after which he said "that's brilliant". So yay.

ii. Apparently 304 people have friended my journal. I find this both overwhelming and delightful, but mostly just puzzled because why are you all here? You know I don't really write that much fic anymore? Or, you know, do much more than whine about my thesis or make cooing noises at Gerard Way. Still, nice to have you all! Hope I'm not boring you too much. ;)

iii. On the tattoo front (and what does it say about me that this is what I spend most of my time thinking about these days - too many pictures of Frank Iero and Pete Wentz undressed have turned my head it seems)Read more... )

iv. Incidentally, does anyone know whether I can get a Special Edition of The Black Parade in the UK? Amazon only offers it from private sellers in the US. *pouts*
wildestranger: (potterpuffs/draco/what)
I've been thinking a lot about tattoos recently (and there's a post about writing on female bodies and resisting heteronormative constructions of womanhood coming up *g*), and about the kind of tattoo I want to get next. cut for length )
wildestranger: (riverlight/pete tattoo)
I can haz a new tattoo! Pictures will follow. :D
wildestranger: (riverlight/pete tattoo)
How do you think this would look at the back of my knee? Well, just below the knee, cause arthritis makes the knee itself swell up.

One of these days I should make a post about how reading bandslash about hot people with tattoos has made me think about my own body, and how it's changed my body aesthetics considerably. *g*

ETA: okay, I can't seem to specify which one on that page. I mean the one called cracked whips in the bottom row, with green on it.
wildestranger: (swirlicon/ff/s)
Lately, I have been thinking about getting another tattoo. And okay, this might have something to do with the many, many pictures of Frank Iero that I've been forced to look at recently, but I have also become more curious about the aesthetics of tattoos - what makes tattooed skin beautiful? Is it beautiful? What does it mean when you put such signs on your skin? What does it say about you?

I've had my one tattoo for seven years now, I've not regretted it once but I've also not been tempted to get more. If I do decide to go for it, there will have to be a lot of thinking and discussing and practising with permanent markers first.

And while I do that, here's a poll. ;)

What do you think about tattoos? Your own, other people's? On shoulders, bellies, thighs, on Pete Wentz's hipbones, on Frank Iero's arms? What makes a tattoo sexy, or not? What makes it interetsing?
