I have two questions:

1. Are there online referencing guides to using MLA? Damned stupid journal requires MLA instead of MHRA and I am utterly lost.

2. How do I edit PDF files? I realise that this reveals how much a n00b I am about computers, but really, mine is the generation between people who will need classes to learn stuff and people who will know everything about computers anyway, and consequently I know nothing.

Please help?

Many academic libraries have online guides to MLA. Just Google and you should get lots.

Generally speaking you can not edit .pdf files - they made them so people could not edit them HOWEVER if you have Abode Acrobat professional - you can make .pdfs that you can add things too, set up boxes, etc...

If I remember correctly, there are entire guideline books to using the MLA... I think it's called the MLA Handbook ... our faculty library had tons of them, and they update annually or so. I recall summarising them on a page or two for my students way back when I was teaching. But there should also be websites?

PDF needs an editor version - the standard adobe reader can't change pdfs. I only know because my colleague whined until we got ours installed in the office ;).

thanks anyway

Argh, I have a job application form on PDF and I can't fill it. I'd really rather not send it by post. I imagine the editor version actually costs something?

Yeah, these things all seem to cost money... one more reason I'm rather unfond of Adobe/pdfs...

MLA crib sheet
formatting
Citation style
writing the bibliography
styles for internet sources

I used the search terms "mla reference style" in Google, but there were a lot of other options too if you need to look for more resources.

Thanks, that's very helpful! I really wish the whole world could just agree on one referencing style.

To edit pdfs, you'll need Adobe Acrobat Pro (for professional) if this is just a one time thing, you can download a trial version off adobe.com, I think.

As for citing, this site (http://www.easybib.com/) formats it for you after you fill in the relevant fields of information. Highly useful!

Hope that helped, somewhat?
