I guess it's the prompt itself that really doesn't work for me. Dark!Sirius, I can see, with heaps of cruelty and arrogance...but I just can't see him being able to use a friend sexually in an openly mean way on an ongoing basis
I think this prompt would work if that darkness involved a desperately selfish edge to Sirius' using Remus. Remus already knows that Sirius is thoughtless and would be prepared for that. This is where knowing more about Sirius' motivations would have been helpful for me. I wanted to see Sirius more on the edge than he was portrayed, but that's my taste.
I agree, it's a tough prompt to work from and that wildestranger tackled it as well as she did, is something to be proud of.
I got the feeling that Remus was not so much surprised as using them to distance himself from Sirius, to convince himself that he didn't want him.
I got the same feeling too--that detachment was fabulous. That scene where he's sleeping between James and Sirius and thinks "this is the way it should be" is just heartbreaking.
