Have been quiet recently, sorry about that. The reason is that my beloved laptop of three years is broken, again - not as drastically as before, but the trackpad has stopped working which means I have to use a mouse, which means I can't use the laptop sitting on my bed, which means that my knees have been fucked for the last week and that my online time has been very limited. Wah, life is hard. *whines*

On the other hand, Tom Hardy exists, and apparently likes to wrap a film by pulling his trousers down and getting paintballed in the arse. I've decided that he's a gift to fangirls from the universe - a gift that keeps on giving, so much omg - a sign, as it were, that we are doing good things in the world and should keep doing them. He is our reward. We must use him well.

Also I hear that delicious is being closed, which will have a devastating effect on our fannish infrastructure. Where will I find my porn now? Delicious has functioned like a shared reclist and I don't know what we'll do without it. Has anybody actually tried any of the alternatives?

I am returned from the Void, that is, the world without computers. My precious and I had a tearful reunion yesterday (the tears were mostly mine) and I welcomed her home with much cuddling and some presents. Apparently my precious wanted a snow leopard. Puzzling, I know, but there it is. Personally I am finding the snow leopard a bit too purple, but as long as the precious is happy, that's what matters.

I'm thinking Merlin for the tentacles - it seems to sort of call out for that, doesn't it? - but for the rest, who knows. I might even try some Johnny Weir or Adam Lambert stuff, or possibly Johnny Weir/Adam Lambert stuff, if I can get over my fear of American accents. Thoughts? Suggestions? Pornish suggestions?

Last night my laptop stopped working. There was a grey screen of death and some very disturbing clacking noises. Today I took it to the Mac shop and the nice young man told me that it was the hard disk, and they could fix it for me in two weeks. I've had my precious for about two and a half years, so it wasn't under warranty, but luckily I'd bought a three-year care package with it so it will all be fixed for free. Unfortunately, this means I will probably lose a number of unfinished documents, including all my help_haiti fics, and will have to buy a new Word for Macs when I get it back. And probably Snow Leopard. So there goes my tattoo fund.

In other news, my hands are fucked, my knees are fucked, and I've got 100 essays/exams to mark in the next few weeks. Which will be hard without my home computer, and the uni computers seem calibrated to pain my joints in every possible way. So I won't be spending much time online for the newt two weeks, but will be checking my email so if there's something I should know, feel free to poke at me.

Two weeks without internet AND without a computer. What am I going to do with my life?

i. My hard drive is fucked, but the nice people at the Mac centre tell me that it's easy to fix and falls under my warranty, so hopefully, I shall soon hold My Precious un my arms again(Yes, that is the name of my laptop, like you don't think of yours on similar terms).

ii. Fall Out Boy is playing UK tours, apparently - are they worth seeing live? I tend to cringe any time Pete opens his mouth (it's the I'm So Bad At Acting I Can't Play Myself -thing), but on the other hand, Patrick. *ponders* I'm thinking the London gig, possibly.

iii. I have realised that without my laptop, there is no reason to get out of bed in the morning. *sadpouts*

More silly questions.

How do I burn a cd? My previous laptops have been too old and decrepit to handle such exciting things, but the nice young gentleman at the shop assured me that my new one would burn not only cds, but also dvds.

But how does one go about doing that? I was hoping the macbook would come with much more instructions...

ETA: It just imported a cd in about two minutes. I am...I am unaccustomed to such speed. *loves new laptop*

This is probably a really stupid question, but does the MacBook come with a version of Microsoft Word, or do I need to buy a thingy? Cause all my computers have been second-hand and have come already equipped with this, and I'm confused by the Apple website.

Also, the guy at the shop is very keen to sell me a three-year warranty for £ 150, which I appreciate is probably not necessary, but might be worth it for my peace of mind. Also, I really wouldn't be able to afford to fix it if something went wrong. How likely is this?
