OH man. This was heart-breaking in it's unresolved-ness and misery and total screwed-up-ness of Remus.. Sorry, not very eloquent here. Very effective writing. The state that Remus is in was very well described and developed, and Sirius, I just feel like hugging him and loving him so hard because he's such a good friend, yet helpless because Remus is shutting him out. Not my favourite kind of Remus, admittedly, but it's a refreshing change to read this.
The contrast with Hogwarts is so stark, with all its darkness. It's almost scary, to think that right after all the joy and excitement at Hogwarts Remus and Sirius are plunged into such harrowing times. Remus, especially; it's almost as though he's an entirely different person from the schoolboy Remus. I think that if you continued writing in this vein through till James and Lily were killed I would be sobbing in a messy pile over here.. (you are evil in that way, you know. evil!)
