This is beautiful - subtle and powerful and incredibly thoughtful, pulling so many strands of evasive canon into the weave of the story. Gideon and Fabian's stories killed me - but then they always do. I'm impossibly attached to them, despite the fact that we know so little about them. Perhaps that's why those sections resonated with me - I'm hungry for more information - but Remus' reaction to see them dead was (above and beyond that) deftly done and utterly heartbreaking.
As to why more people haven't commented - the only reason I can imagine is length? It takes a fair while to read almost 9,000 words . . . perhaps some people passed it over for no other reason than they lacked time?
