I was really impressed by this. It's very tense and moving, though the emotions are quite understated. I liked the way you handled their responses to the war and the losses they were suffering--there was a sense of foreboding and uncertainty all the way through.
As for why more people didn't review initially, I think that might also be down to the prompt itself. The story isn't something I would expect from just reading the prompt--it's so much better. Had I just seen the prompt and not known it was you that had written it, I'd have skipped it, expecting yet another 'Gyrffinwhore!Sirius doesn't know what he wants and is a bastard while Remus pines and is pathetic' fic. What you did was so much more complex, more interesting and more real. There was a real sense of a difficult relationship under trying times--it was actually quite painful.
And I do love a happy (but not saccharine) ending! *g*
