like a walk in the park

Spring. It has been sunny this week, and warm enough for me to keep the windows open occasionally. This is perhaps a small thing, but something about blue skies and fresh(ish) air makes me very happy. I've started to have my morning coffee by the living room windows, and ended up being constantly distracted by how wonderful the warm air is. The fact that people in the UK are always surprised by the arrival of winter is something I make fun of, and yet I am always surprised by the arrival of spring. Possibly because summer, at least, doesn't happen every year, and 16C might well be the warmest it'll get.
Things Which Annoy Me:
Amanda Palmer. After her ableism and her racefail I find myself increasingly annoyed by most things she says - find myself unpacking the casual and unthinking privilege in almost every tweet (should unfollow her, shouldn't I? Yet it's like fandomwank - can't look away). I have a ticket to go see her show in a couple of weeks, and having paid for it and for my train tickets to London I am reluctant to let it go to waste - I did as much for Gabe Saporta even though he is dead to me and I am as much annoyed by him. I suspect my main reason for attending the concert will be in order to produce a comprehensive critique of it. Being able to prove why other people are Wrong About Everything is, after all, the most valuable skill learned in academia, and it would be remiss of me to let such an opportunity pass by.
Things Which Both Annoy And Please Me:
A couple of days ago I was watching Would I Lie To You on Dave, and the host was talking about Ann Widdecombe and making a point about how she had bad hair and lopsided tits. While I detest Ann Widdecombe as much as the next Right Thing Person, judging her for her appearance instead of her opinions does not actually prove her wrong in any way, and moreover contributes to a sexist culture and thus makes me very very angry. But then, a miracle occurred. David Mitchell, the glorious, the witty, the charming David Mitchell opened his mouth and said pretty much exactly what I've just said now. I would totally draw hearts around his name if I knew how to do that (and do a number of other things to him which it would be inappropriate for a virtuous and mature woman such as myself to mention in public, but no doubt you can imagine them. Really, all of them.). David Mitchell is the only reason I continue to watch Dave, because he consistently refuses to engage in sexist jokes unlike every other male comedian. I am incredibly charmed by what Stephen Fry calls his 'angry logic', and the fact that he gets ranty about David Cameron in a really endearing way, and the way he produces complete sentences with a point in the end and a sarcastic tone. *sighs dreamily*
Why yes, I do have an embarrassing celebrity crush on David Mitchell. *g*
