So I guess I heard this one too many times.

REAL WOMEN DO NOT HAVE CURVES.

REAL WOMEN ARE NOT SKINNY BITCHES EITHER.

REAL WOMEN ARE, IN FACT, WHATEVER THE HELL REAL WOMEN HAPPEN TO BE.

I appreciate that the first one gets said mostly for liberational purposes, but that doesn't make it any less prescriptive. And if one more person tells me that I need to be more curvy to be real woman, I'm going to pinch them where it hurts.

Exactly. I get that the 'real women have curves' thing is a response to certain constructions of womanhood in the media, but still. This is not the way to support the sisterhood.

(My personal favorite: You're not a real woman unless you have children. I don't have children, does that make me a fake woman?)
