Remus/Sirius recs

Friends, I find myself with a great longing for Remus/Sirius fic.

This, I find, is a longing not easily satisfied - the heydays of the fandom were on livejournal, which means that a) many of the great fics are no longer available, and b) when I try to search AO3 by kudos or bookmarks, it gives me modern things. These are not, of course, necessarily bad, but many of them are written by very young people (which, good for them! But I am too much an Old to read things by very young people.), and also, actually, quite bad. So I need your help.

Please tell me about your favourite Remus/Sirius fics. The old ones that you loved 15 years ago. The new ones you discovered this year, or last year, or five years ago, even when the fandom was mostly quiet. The ones you remember and treasure.

Most of Copperbadge’s HP fic is Sirius/Remus. Stealing Harry is a great but unfinished series; it’s an AU where Sirius didn’t try to kill Peter, and he owns a bookshop near the Dursley’s. This was my all-time favorite HP fic until Copperbadge had to leave it. “The Uncle” is a good AU where Remus is a gangster and owns a literary brothel; in this AU, Harry takes care of the basilisk with two taps to the head. Not as much Sirius/Remus romance in this one, but it’s hilarious. I think all of Copperbadge’s HP fic is on AO3. Of course you may have already read these things, in which case...sorry I can’t help.

Hello! I am, as it happens, very familiar with Copperbadge's work - I was active in this fandom at the same time as they (erm, 2004...) and I have very fond memories of all the fics you mention. But no worries - these are also what I would recommend first to someone looking for R/S.

the dogfather by hollimichelle is more a rewrite of the first book from Harry's POV, but it has a companion story about Remus and Sirius: the black dog.

Thank you! I will admit that I was hoping you would answer (hello, it's been a while! Although I haven't been active with blogging in...about ten years now, wow, I do still read my flist every day and I am glad you are doing well.), and this is exactly the levels of modernity I was looking for. I've seen a few recent fics that were very good, hence the longing. I am also thinking about what it would be to write about them now that I am much older than they ever got to be, rather than much younger, which was the case the first time around.

I see you don't have your HP fic on AO3 - I looked, in my search for the good stuff - would you ever put it up there or is it too much of a hassle?

I still occasionally come back to writing and reading about them and it's different with the extra years - possibly even sadder to think how young they were.

And yes, quite - so much more tragic. Certainly at this age I have much more of an understanding of how much you would not easily shrug off 12 years of imprisonment, even if JKR makes Sirius seem reasonably functional. Not to mention the trauma of impoverishment and living against society that Remus faced, which in the UK of the time would have been very different than it is now. The world is very different.

I am sort of now thinking about writing something (now that I am an Old, that is to say 40 - I was 25 when I first read HP, which seems so so far away), just to explore the dynamic from a different perspective.
