Partly inspired by my
coolasblaise in
communiquills's, partly by some other Blaise stuff I'm writing, here is my contribution to the "20 things about..." challenge at
cq_roundtable.

20 things about Blaise Zabini
1. Blaise is fluent in four languages. He learned French and Italian with his cousins as a child, and made a point of learning Latin so that he would understand spellmaking. He considers the lack of language and cultural education to be the worst thing about the way Dumbledore leads Hogwarts.
2. Blaise is very smug about his linguistic skills. But then, Blaise is smug about many things. He doesn’t consider this to be a flaw.
3. Blaise admires his mother, and her skills in manipulating people. However, he refuses to make use of his own skills in seduction for profit, and becomes violently annoyed if anyone suggests that he should.
4. Blaise expected to be sorted into Ravenclaw, and has spent many years thinking about why he ended up in Slytherin. He doesn’t mind, really, but it’s an interesting question. At the moment, Blaise is thinking that it’s because he can learn things in Slytherin that he wouldn’t have learned in Ravenclaw, whereas diligent scholarship is something he would have pursued in any house.
5. Blaise makes a point of being courteous to all houses except Gryffindors. He has many acquaintances in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, both beneath and above his year, and he is the only Slytherin who does. This is another thing that makes him smug.
6. Blaise doesn’t mind Gryffindors on principle, but it would be most impolitic for a young man of his position to make friends there, and besides, Gryffindors would only see him as a Slytherin. Also, he finds Potter rather annoying.
7. He suspects that Potter’s friends also find him annoying. Certainly Granger rolls her eyes at him and grinds her teeth a lot. Blaise has some respect for Hermione Granger; she is at least intelligent. But she is also self-righteous and patronising. Blaise makes an art of being patronising himself, but he does it with style and wit and rather disapproves of Granger’s gauche methods. He contends himself with occasionally smirking at her from a distance.
8. Blaise insists that he disliked Draco Malfoy up to his sixth year in Hogwarts. At present, he refuses to comment on the matter.
9. Blaise is bisexual, but prefers boys in Hogwarts. Mostly this is because he disapproves of the social conservatism of the British Wizarding world, and the way young witches are taught to behave foolishly with boys. Young wizards are also taught to behave foolishly, but Blaise finds it more entertaining to subvert their delusions.
10. Blaise is not a Death Eater, nor is he planning on becoming one. His family is too foreign to have been of much interest to Lord Voldemort, but primarily Blaise refuses on the grounds that their programme is unintelligent. From what he hears from his housemates, the Dark Lord appears to have the kind of mind that will end up banning books. Blaise is violently opposed to such thinking.
11. Blaise is far too prudent to mention this to anyone, and has enough practice in Occlumency to shield his thoughts. His policy is to stay out of the way, and do what he must to protect himself.
12. Blaise first slept with Draco Malfoy in the autumn of the sixth year. He hasn’t slept with anyone else since then, and berates himself for such foolishness. He claims there are no other suitable partners at the moment. This makes his cousin Beppo laugh.
13. Blaise is not jealous of Pansy, although he finds her jealousy amusing. He doesn’t see her as competition. He is quite looking forward to the day when he will point out to Draco that he is gay, and the screaming fit that will ensue. He also plans to make his point by fucking Draco into the wall.
14. Blaise finds Draco’s tendency to make scenes most annoying. He also dislikes the naked vulnerability Draco throws in his face. Slytherins are not supposed to be vulnerable, and Blaise finds it most disturbing and difficult to handle.
15. He also suspects that such obvious display of weakness is a ploy from Draco’s part. He would admire that, if not for the increasingly desperate tinge in Draco’s pleading.
16. Blaise doesn’t know what mission Draco has from the Dark Lord. He doesn’t want to know. But he worries about what will happen to Draco when he fails, and then scolds himself for caring.
17. Blaise likes to bottom as much as he likes to top, and regrets that only the latter is possible with Draco. He also finds the lack of confidence, maturity and sense rather unattractive. This used to trouble him, but now he has given over puzzling why he can’t stop touching Draco, and decided to allow himself till the end of the year for this infatuation.
18. Blaise inherited from his mother stunning good lucks, an ability to seduce people, and a generalised contempt for the world. He values these gifts more and more with every year.
19. Blaise plans to be a writer, a scholar and a gentleman of leisure. He fears that Voldemort’s victory would be in conflict with these pursuits. This is why he rather hopes Potter will end up killing him.
20. Blaise despises Dumbledore, and has no plans to join in with his side. But at the end of his sixth year, he goes to speak with McGonagall and becomes a member of the Order of the Phoenix. At Dumbledore’s death, he realises what Draco’s mission was and how his friend has been used by Voldemort. He decides that this is unacceptable, and chooses to do something about it. He never mentions this reason to anyone. And makes a point of not being friendly with the Gryffindors, but only to preserve his dignity.

Date: 2005-10-08 07:16 am (UTC)I hope this happens in canon. It'd be great to see a Slytherin who joined the Order.
#19 is excellent.

Date: 2005-10-08 07:19 am (UTC)Heh, he's not the only one.
Oh, I love Blaise and his smugness. And I imagine the day he tells Draco that he's gay will be most amusing. Well, tantrum-filled, anyway. I can only imagine the screaming.
I do hope he gets to be a gentleman of leisure.

Date: 2005-10-08 08:14 am (UTC)(Although, Tom is more than a little miffed. He has no interest in banning books. Kill the people, horribly twist and use the ideas; that's Tom's approach. Banning/burning books is more Umbridge's style. *g*)

Date: 2005-10-08 04:24 pm (UTC)I hope Blaise gets the future he desires -- he would make an excellent writer, scholar, and gentleman of leisure!
I can't wait to see how Blaise's feelings for Draco play out...

Date: 2005-10-12 01:41 pm (UTC)I'm also surprised by how many of the Slytherin turn out to be bisexual - I think there's something in their pumpkin juice.

Date: 2005-10-20 08:58 am (UTC)I'm compiling a list of authors who have completed
this meme for the purposes of a. knowing where all of
the cool memeage is, and b. hosting a fic fest (http://www.livejournal.com/users/iulia_linnea/88689.html) based
on the "prompts" therein. Would you be interested in
having this piece listed? If you are, it would mean
that you agree to allow other writers to use your meme
entry's facts/things as writing prompts for their own
fic. You would, of course, receive credit for the
inspiration---and also pimpage for your writing. What
do you say? *hopes*
