wildestrangerI went to see X-men: First Class. Short review: I love Erik Lensherr and everything he chooses to be.
Long review: There could have been more manly bonding. I was led to expect there would be more. That said, I did like several things in the film.
* Michael Fassbender. Mmmm.
* The fact that Charles is kind of a prat, and shown to be such.
* Michael Fassbender in a tight white t-shirt. I realised as I watched that scene that I should be bothered by the fact that he's killing people. but actually, no. You go and do whatever you need to. This is what I mean by everything he chooses to be. Also, is hot.
* The fact that Shaw is shown to be a sexist dick in addition to his other flaws, and that Emma Frost minds it.
* Single perfect manly tears. MATCHING perfect manly tears.
* Champagne and lolling on a bed. Apparently there's a deleted scene with crossdressing?
* That the distinction between their world views is based on Charles's assumption that people are nice and Erik's assumption that people are dicks. And that this seems to depend on their various experiences of privilege. Also, Erik is so right. About everything.
*Late night drinking sessions. Clearly there's a missing scene where Charles goes to Eric's room with that bottle and complains about naked Raven, while Erik smiles mysteriously and tells him to take his clothes off.
*Magneto's special hat. With the horns.
Things that were a bit boring:
* The pasted on het. Lol.
* Threat of nuclear war, yawn.
* Teenagers being teenagery.
* The fact that Raven seems to remain a teenager even though she's the same age as Charles.
Anyway, is there porn yet? There should be porn.

Date: 2011-06-14 04:52 pm (UTC)Yes, apparently when they filmed the scene at the lapdancing club - where they lounge on the bed together - the original scene included some crossdressing. Hopefully it will be included in the dvd extras.
We should plan more joint film-viewing. It looks like The Eagle comes out on dvd just before I come to London in July?

YES. I still haven't seen The Eagle and this must be rectified.
