Since you have asked, here's how I think he did it.

Sherlock throws off Moriarty's body, wearing his coat - we only saw the body upside down and in snatches, and there were no clear views of its face. John's view is compromised, because Sherlock has asked Molly to make sure that he doesn't get a good look at his body, i.e. she hits him with her bike so that he is befuddled (Because what else would that 'I need you' be about?). It would not be difficult for Mycroft to arrange for the body to be misidentified.

Pretty much my view. Also, the reference to the "magic trick" in the phone call.

Yess! This is what was decided in my house too. (Although we didn't guess that it was Molly on the bike - very clever.)

Well, he must have asked her to do something, and it would have been necessary for John not to get a close look, and so...

He'd have to also get rid of Moriarty's bloodstain on the rooftop, but I'm sure they'll manage to handwave that one or just make the information that there was a random bloodstain up there disappear, with Mycroft's help. Hmmmmmm...

Oh yes, that shouldn't be hard. And nobody's going to be looking at it immediately.

Ooooooor ...... why did the little girl scream when she saw Sherlock? I THINK THERE WAS A SHERLOCK MASK! And it was in Jim's pocket the whole time AND Molly works in the morgue so she faked the death stuff (poss with Mycroft's help but not even necessary really), mwahahahaa, FIXED.

Yes, Moriarty had clearly done something to the girl to cause that reaction. I didn't really consider the idea that Sherlock was faking it to be a possibility. And yes, Molly was definitely involved. I actually quite like the idea of Mycroft being fooled as well. :)

MY pet theory now written out slightly more coherently.

He needed Molly. Why? - she works in a morgue!
Moriarty got it wrong, he had gunmen on all of Sherlock's friends, but he missed one....Molly.
Sherlock did jump but he never hit the ground.
He landed in the garbage truck that was on screen in front of his body for a split second.
Body (not dead btw) is removed quickly to where....the morgue! Now who works in the morgue that could switch a body/fake stuff.......?

Sherlock insisted John stay where he was, in that EXACT point. Why? So he was the the right angle to witness the fall ... but not the landing.
:D :D

This is a really plausible theory. I wonder what the fanon is going to coalesce into in the long wait for the answer.
